Group Rating Program
ACI Helps You Save Money Through Group Rating Programs
The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (OBWC) allows employers in both the private and public sectors to join together under a sponsoring organization in order to be evaluated as one large employer for the purpose of workers' compensation premium calculation.
Typically, an employer must have better-than-average claims experience in order to qualify for a group rating program and also must be up-to-date on premium payments owed to the OBWC.
Savings on group rating programs do vary. Employers with excellent claims experience and safety records can qualify for up to 53% discounts. Employers with average to better-than-average loss history can expect savings in the range of 30% to 45%.

How much money will my company save?
Depending on your individual claims experience, you can realize significant savings on your merit-rated premium. An example:
Individual Premium: $10,000.00
Group Discount: 53%
Group Premium: $ 4,700.00
Total Savings: $ 5,300.00
When does group savings actually occur?
The group application you are making now is for the July 2014 through June 2015 OBWC premium year. For group employers, the savings are reflected in the premium payments that will be made in January 2015 (covering the 7/1/2014 - 12/31/2014 period)and August 2015 (covering the period 1/1/15 - 6/30/15).
Group Experience vs. Group Retrospective
Both group rating programs allow smaller employers to combine into larger insurance pools based on the work performed and their claims history. Group Experience programs offer a set premium based upon the expected amount of claims filed. Group retrospective programs, however, reevaluate the claims filed within the risk pool at set time periods to adjust the premiums. Group retro offers the possibility of greater savings based on the actual claims history, but at greater risk if the claims filed are excessive.
How can ACI save me additional money?
ACI offers Drug Free Workplace Training and hosts the Tri-State Area Safety Council which may help your company save additional money off of their workers’ comp premiums.
How do I know if my company is eligible for a group rating?
To determine whether your company is eligible for a group rating, please complete an AC-3 form to receive a quote for group rating or contact the CareWorksComp Program Manager, Julia Hall. Typically, if your company has better-than-average claims experience you should qualify. Companies with negative claims experience are generally not eligible for a group rating.
