Brief History
In the mid-1920's construction associations in the Tri-State area discussed the concept of creating an umbrella-type organization encompassing all management branches of the construction industries in Greater Cincinnati. This organization was to represent its members in areas of mutual interest, while separate trade association divisions located under the larger association would represent their members in areas of individual interests.
By January 1, 1929, three of the local associations --- the Builders Exchange, the Hamilton County Building Materials Credit Association, and the Cincinnati Chapter, Associated General Contractors of America --- had voted to merge and form the new organization. They moved their offices and staffs into the Associated Building Industries headquarters. (They chose the Associated Building Industries to be the vehicle for the establishment of this new organization.)
On March 28, 1929, 450 representatives of the Greater Cincinnati construction industry met at the Cincinnati Club for what was to be the last annual meeting of the Associated Building Industries. A resolution was presented during the meeting to name this new organization. Thus, Allied Construction Industries was formed.
